Lash Frequently Asked Questions

What are semi-permanent eyelash extensions?

These are synthetic extensions made of a polyester material. They are made to look like a natural perfect eyelash; thicker at the base thinner at the tip with a slight curl. They come in many different colors; the most popular is solid Black. These lashes are thicker than the natural hair to give the illusion of a much thicker lash line, and they come in different lengths so that we can re-design an eye-shape. These individual synthetic hairs are glued one by one with a medical grade bonding glue to your own natural lashes.  When done right, you will see no clumps and have no tangles in your lashes.

How long do semi-permanent eyelash extensions last?

There has been a lot of misrepresentation regarding this question. The truth is that a natural eyelash has only a 2 – 3 month lifecycle. In order to apply a synthetic eyelash to a natural hair, the natural hair has to be half the length of the synthetic hair being applied – which means this hair could be a couple weeks or more into the natural lifecycle. With this being said, we apply a full set starting at 40+ lashes per eye, we include the first refill for free in two weeks. This allows us to fill in any missing eyelashes to the new hairs that are growing. It also allows us to see how fast your eyelashes grow as everyone’s growth cycle will be different. After this refill, you will have the option to keep up your lashes with continuous refills for as long as you wish or let the lash set you received grow out until the last lash has fallen out.

How long do permanent eyelash extension last?

A natural eyelash falls off every 60 to 90 days on average due to the natural growth cycle and is naturally replaced with the growth of a new eyelash. At any given moment, each of your natural eyelashes is at a different stage of its life cycle. A touch up is needed to replenish the lashes that have completed their life cycle. Since everyone’s eyelash cycle growth is different, we recommend getting a touch-up every two, three or four weeks.

How safe are semi-permanent eyelash extensions?

These extensions are a synthetic hair, which means they are completely sanitary and hygienic to apply to the human hair. Be careful when you hear of someone applying a human hair lash or animal hair lash (i.e. mink) to your own lashes – these lashes are hard to sanitize completely and can cause major allergic reactions. We use a medical grade bonding glue – similar to the Derma bond glue used in surgical procedures. It has no fumes and because it only touches the eyelash hair – it will not cause an allergic reaction.

Can you describe the application process?

The application process is very relaxing and has been compared to receiving a spa service.  You will lie back on a cushy reclined table and have your eyes closed the entire time.  The service generally takes between 90 to 150 minutes to apply a full set and refills can be done in as little as 20 – 60 minutes.  The procedure is so relaxing and comfortable that many clients fall asleep.

How do I take care of these lashes once they’re on?

The semi-permanent eyelash extensions are wonderful because they will replace the need for mascara and provide a completely low-maintenance make-up routine. The main points to follow are that you cannot apply makeup or get the lashes wet for 24 hours after they are applied.   Do not swim or spa for 48 hours after lash application to allow adequate time for bonding.  You cannot use any oil based makeup removers or products on the lashes or around the eyes. And should you decide to use mascara, only a water-based mascara can be used on these eyelashes. The best care for these lashes is to just leave them alone, which is why they are so great – you will revel in the time it saves you in the morning when you pop out of bed looking bright eyed as though your mascara and eye makeup is already done.  Detailed instructions will be provided after your eyelash application.

Lash Lift FAQ'S

 What is a Lash Lift?

The lash lift procedure has revolutionized old, inadequate perming techniques. Using silicone pads instead of perm rods, this new technique can lift, straighten or curl, and lengthen your own natural lashes to create a brighter, fuller, wide eyed look. No need for extensions and the associated aftercare, this will last you 6-8 weeks and can be combined with a tint to leave the mascara behind.

Is a Lash Lift the same as an eyelash perm?

No the Lash lift Is a new, improved procedure, overcoming the ‘over curled’ look of its predecessor . Whilst the chemical procedure is identical to a perm, the difference is in the results. By ditching the old fashioned perm rollers which curled  back the lashes to the extent of the ‘dolly look’, the silicone pads used for this  new procedure lifts the lash from the root in either a straight or curled, upwards fashion that produces length and a bright eyed enhanced look.

Does the Lash Lift procedure hurt?

No the procedure is totally painless.  You will have your eyes closed for the entire treatment and although it may feel a little strange being unable to open your eyes for this time, it offers you a chance to relax during the treatment.

How long does a lash lift take?

A lash lift can take anything from 45 minutes to an hour from beginning to end. Maybe a little longer if you decide to have your eyelashes tinted which will enhance the effect of your lash lift.

How long will a Lash Lift last?

A Lash Lift can last 6-8 weeks but can vary from person to person.  There is no need for any maintenance appointments in between but you will need to have the process repeated every 6-8 weeks to lift the new hair growth. There are some situations that may cause the lift to drop/weaken prematurely such as swimming, use off harsh products or heat.  If you find that your lift does not last the full 2 months, you can repeat the treatment after a minimum of 4 weeks of having the initial treatment, but not before.

Will I have a reaction to the lotion?

Very few people have a reaction to the lotion but that doesn't mean you won’t be one of them. What one person reacts to, another is fine with. This is why you are required to have a patch test 24 hours beforehand.  A patch test is quick and simple.  It consists of us placing 2 drops of lotions behind the ear for 15 minutes. Wiping it off and waiting to see if any subsequent irritation occurs over the next 24 hrs such as redness, itching or inflammation for example.

I have had a lash lift before at with another therapist, do I still have to have a patch test?

Yes. This may seem an inconvenience, especially if you are keen to have it done. But the products used for the previous lift may differ from the ones we use on you and we would have no way of knowing. We therefore have to test you just like a first time client. This is for your own health/well-being. It is also a legal requirement that forms part of our agreement with our insurers.

I wear contact lenses, can I have this procedure?

Yes. However, we will ask you to remove them temporarily during the treatment as the eyes will be closed throughout.

Can I wear makeup after my lash lift?

Yes but it is advised that you leave your lashes untouched for at least 24 hours after your treatment. You may find that there is no need for mascara anyway, but if you wish to make your lashes even fuller, a non-waterproof mascara is advised as the removal of waterproof mascaras can be harsh on the lashes and weaken the lift.

How do I clean my eyes?

Gently, using mild products. The Simple rang e is mild and inexpensive.

Can I use an eyelash curler?

No. There will be no need for an eyelash curler as this treatment gives a much better result than using a curler, But more importantly, using one may weaken and damage your lashes.

How often can I have a lash lift?

A lash lift will begin to naturally drop after about 2 months and your lashes will be back to their natural look. The lashes should drop evenly and will not look out of place. You can repeat the treatment after a minimum of one month if you feel you need to, or you can wait until they are back to their natural state.
